Summary of Question:Children's Helmets To Fit Over Joora?
Category:Hair
Date Posted:Monday, 12/09/2002 7:38 PM MST

My 4 year old son has not yet made off his tricycle and onto a bicycle as I have not figured out a satisfactory helmet solution. Besides being the right thing, helmets recently became law in our community. He has a sizeable jura, and taking the putka off and redoing the hair is not practical everytime he wants to ride a bike (to say nothing of the reaction of the other kids when he gets to the park with his hair exposed).

So I would appreciate specific advice. Are there any helmets commercially available that do not cover the top of the head? Has anyone tried taking the standard child's bike helmet, which is made of foam and light plastic and cutting a hole in the top? Has some spirited Sikh entrepeneur started making helmets for Sikh boys?

Sat Siri Akaal. I am unaware of helmets modified for Sikh youth. I understand your concern. I recommend you search www.sikhseek.com or your favorite search engine using helmet and Sikh or 'protective headgear' and Sikh as keywords together. Also speak to helmet manufacturers. Perhaps if you got a larger helmet it would fit over the joora and provide needed protection.
