Summary of Question:	Are Certain Pandits For Real?

I was wondering if in Sikhi, the reading of rashis and the belief in pandits is allowed. My aunt, has been going regularly to a pandit type person and everything he has told her about her past has been accurate, as well as the information given to her about her children. Along with that, a friend of mine had a random person come up to him and tell him everything about his past just by merely holding his hand, and this person (that was doing the readings) was a sardar sikh. I am just wondering what the views of Sikhi are on all of this?

Dear One:
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
Sikhi teaches that the ONLY words one should follow are the words of the Guru. Your aunt could ask a question and take a Hukum from Siri Guru and get an answer that would be right.

I am not disrespecting pandits and rishis. Some of them really do see what is coming; some however, do not. What is more, dependancy on words of a pandit can potentially end up in what we call a self-fulfilling prophecy: because she has been told such and such WILL happen, she (perhaps) sets her mind that it will. Another risk of following the words of such people, no matter how accurate they may be, is that she (or anyone) may cease to make decisions for herself based on her sense of Waheguru from within as well as Guru's words in Siri Guru Granth. For these reasons, Sikhi frowns upon reliance on prophecies of pandits & rishis, etc.

Finally, I must mention that no sardar or pandit or rishi should EVER tell someone about their past or future without that person's PERMISSION. So whatever you decide to do or advise your aunt, make sure that at the least, the person involved is REQUESTING the information.
