SATNAM VAHEGURU JI

hats off to you people for creating such a wonderful site and rendering such a helpful sevice to the Punjabi community.
A few months back, due to guru kirpa i started the practice of getting up at 5a.m and doing Jaapji Sahib and Chaoupi Sahib. It helped me a lot, but inspite of my best efforts i have not been able to become consistent. Many a times when i fail to get up at amrit vela and when i get up i see it is already 7a.m. then the guilt tears me apart. i find myself in less than half the spirits. So much that i then donot feel like doing path and my studies also suffer. Can there be any sure method to get up at amrit vela?Is doing path at 7 or 8a.m not as effective as doing it in amrit vela.
Also, plz. tell me upto what time the amrit vela last? is it possible to strike a balance between reading Bani and engineering studies?,i being an engg. student. Khalsaji a little input from your side will go a long way in lifting my spirits

Amrit Vela is 2 1/2 hours before the sun rises. It is an auspicsious time to do path because of the position of the earth in relation to the sun at that time. Likewise for evening prayers, it is best to do 2 1/2 hours before sunset. So that is the ideal time to help to let our subsconscious thoughts go through meditation and replace them with the Guru's words.
If however, circumstances don't allow us to get up at that time, we should strive to get up early enough to be able to at least do Japji which takes no more than 20 minutes if read aloud with clear pronounciation.
As for guilt it isn't a part of Sikhism. Sikhism is a path to master the mind and like walking any path we encounter barriers of different types along the way and we will constantly face the challenge to keep going.
So keep going. Replace guilt for love and devotion to the Guru and you might be surprised to find that you can wake up without an alarm clock at exactly the time you want to!
