Sat sri akal

Before I ask anything I would just like to say thank you so much for providing a service like Sikhnet where we have the chance to learn about our religion.
It is because of your hard work and effort to provide a learning source, that our religion will be able to be carried through the generations.

My question is why do Sindhis follow Sikhism and Hinduism at the same time? Nobody has been able to answer this question for me as yet.
I myself am of Sindhi origin and I know that all ceremonies in my family take place in the Gurdwara, we have a version of the Guru Granth Sahib translated in to Sindhi, we regulary visit the Gurdwara with family and we follow Guru Nanak Ji's teachings. If all this is being done by myself and my Sindhi community, why are we known as Hindus?
I would be very happy if you could please answer this question for me. Thank you.

(REPLY) You are probably known as Hindus, because that was the cultural tradition in your family! A Sikh is, after all, A "sishya" a student of Truth, one who follows the teachings of Guru Nanak through Guru Gobind Singh, as embodied in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib! I am very interested in your question, because many years ago I knew a wonderful Sindhi family. At the time I was not a Sikh, but I knew they kept a picture of Guru Nanak in their home, and tried to live very righteously, doing good deeds without taking credit! (A real practice of "Seva.") I don't have the answer to your question, but I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that Sikhs call themselves Sikhs, and not only go to Gurdwara, but never cut hair, wear turbans, (and wear all of the five "K"s) and worship the One God who breathes in all. Maybe you are more of a Sikh than you realize! I hope someone else has further information on this subject. Blessings, SP
