Summary of Question:Good And Evil
Category:Other

I am taking philosophy at college and we are discussing the 'problem of evil'. It is the argument of how the world was created and why there is evil in the world. I understand that in Sikhism we believe in Kal Yug and Sat Yug, but, i don't understand the concept. I am also not sure how the world was created, i think that it is by evolution. I would really appreciate a quick answer, many thanx,

Greetings and blessings to you. You have asked a very good question.

Have you ever considered that evil is the polarity of good just as top is the polarity of bottom? In other words, you could not have one without the other. Good is a relative experience in varying degrees of goodness dissappates to less goodness which eventually becomes without goodness...or evil. God contains all aspects of His creation.

The "Sat Jug" was the age of truth. In the Sat Jug, Dharma, or righteousness stood on 4 legs (like the legs of a table supporting truth). Then came the Treta Age, where righteousness stood on 3 legs. Then came the Doapur Age where truth was supported on 2 legs. Now we are in the Kal Jug. In this age truth and righteousness is only supported by one leg, only 1/4 of the populace is supported with righteousness. And that one leg or that one avenue of support is through the chnating of God's Name. You may have heard the line from Gurbani,'in the Kalyug, Kirtan is the Master'.

Good luck with your class and God bless you.
