Summary of Question:Why Keep Hair If U Dont Follow Ur Religon?

I have learnt about the sikh religon when i met my boy friend. The thing i never got was that he smokes he drinks he breaks the law and keeps his turban and beard to make his parents happy. He told me that if u keep your hair u are exepted in to the sikh religon? Is this true and also if he keeps this life styel is he a true sikh?

Sat nam. A true Gursikh is known to the world for his ACTIONS as well as his form. His actions demonstrate that he (or she) knows how to follow Guru's instruction. Your boyfriend does not act Sikh (no disrespect meant), at least on the face of it. Sikhs are not 'born' they are made through conscious attention to Guru's instruction. It is a lifelong discipline. Because of his form (hair & beard & turban), he appears Sikh to others. Substance and form hold equal weight in Sikhi, that's what makes this path unusual from others.
After saying all that, I must add that your boyfriend has his own relationship with Guru from within his heart, and I cannot know his heart on this.
