hello...

i have a question that's been on my mind for a long time.Yoou know how some people are amritshak.Well, my father is and he's forcing me to be as well.Sometimes i feel i want to, but most of the time i don't.I mean parents aren't supposed to force their child to do something, right? And i have one last thing to say. I love horses and my dream is to go horse-backriding.And i really want to. But my father won't let me.He says i will break my leg or something. But i won't. Didn't Guru Gobind Singh Ji also ride a horse? i really want to. Please help me answer these questions!

(REPLY) Parents usually want what's best for their children. I assume by "Amrtishak" you mean that your father has taken Amrit? That is a great blessing for him, but I don't believe anyone should be forced to take Amrit! It is a privilege and an opportunity to have the strength of Guru Gobind Singh assist you through your life, but a person should take it when they can appreciate and value the blessing, not because they are "forced" -- so I hope that may help. Perhaps you can explain to your father that you want to consider this step carefully, and not just "do" it, just to be doing it, because it's a sacred commitment. AS for the horseback riding. Yes, Guru Gobind Singh did ride a horse, but in those days I think just about everyone did. People do get hurt on horseback, and I would imagine you need to convince your father that you are careful and that you will learn how to ride properly -- so that it's not just a childish emotional desire. (or is it???) I don'tknow how old you are, so that's a factor as well, and he's just trying to protect you, I'm sure. Be patient, and develop such character and show such determination to excel in your school work that he will want to reward you by allowing you to ride on a horse. (Where would you be going to ride? In a stable? do you know someone who has a horse?-- all the circumstances do make a difference.) Best of luck, may God bless you and Guru guide you!
