Summary of Question:Ardas At Wedding Ceromonies

Satriakhal,

My question has allready been asked by someone else before, but I shall still proceed.

Since becoming a practicing sikh, I get very offended when only the parents of the bride and groom are asked to stand for the ardas prior to the Anand Karaj ceromony. I always believed that when anyone is performing or standing for ardas other people also present should stand aswel.

OK you could argue that I am being fanatical, but surely ardas in the presence of the Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji should be acknowledged by all. People who I have talked to about this subject have sais that traditionally only the father of the bride and groom stood up, as it is these two people who have brought their children together in the sanctuary of our living Guruji, but are we taught in sikhism to accept all daughter as 'our own'?

I am sorry if I have seemed to 'go on' about the above, but I truly feel if all the people present at wedding ceromonies stood togeter and prayed for the couple then may be thier wedded life would be full of a greater amount of joy and happiness.

Thankyou for your time.

Dear one,
I do understand your perspective. You are certainly correct in your reasoning.

Here is another perspective. The Sadh Sangat and the Guru are all there GIVING their silent support. The parents of the bride and groom are standing to be accountable to the Sadh Sangat/Guru and giving their prayer for the success of this venture. Everyone else is witness to this act.

God bless you and continue your deep search for clarity in all.
