i've just started doing sukhmani, but i was wondering since its very long do i read parts of it or all of it in one day?

Sat Siri Akaal. Far best to do it all in one sitting. As you get to know it the naad of the poetry will become part of you and it will be easier and take less time.
If you simply cannot do it in one sitting, divide it up and try to do it all in one day. Sukhmani is composed of 24 Ashtapadees that are divided into 8 pauris. Each Ashtapadee starts with a Slok. So, consider 3, 4, 6, 8, or 12 Ashtapadees at a time. Always end on the eighth pauri, before a new Slok. Each Ashtapadee (Slok + 8 pauris) can stand alone, so to speak, and represents a specific concept or point that Guru is trying to make, although the entire Sukhmani was recognized by Guru Arjun as a condensed version of the teachings of the full SGGS. So that is why reading the entire song is at once is best.
