Sat sri akal,

Could you please answer some questions regarding this article.

I am confused as to whether Guru Nanak Ji believed in Islam/and was a muslim. I have read upon this article which suggests that Guru Nanak prayed at mosques and also believed in much of Islam and its faith as our teachings today are quite similiar to Islam.

In the Quaran it says that after the Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him, it states that he is the last prophet and there are no other propheta or messengers to come.

Please could you advise me if what it states in this article is true.

How can Sikhism take form of a new religion using the Guru ji's teachings after Islam when most signs from the Quaran state there is no other prophet to come.

Thank you for your time.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Guru Nanak was neither a Hindu nor a Muslim. He worshipped the ONE God who lives in everyBODY. He taught his disciples to respect all religions. He may have gone to a Hindu temple or a Muslim mosque -- he saw God everywhere. He did not teach his disciples to follow the Quaran, nor to follow any previous scriptures. He taught people to stop fighting about how to worship the ONE GOD. Those who accepted his teachings were his "shishyas" which means "students" and they became the first Sikhs. He taught them to get up early in the morning and chant God's Name, and then go out and earn righteously so that they could help those in need. He taught kindness, compassion, humility. Guru Nanak was an enlightened being who had a direct experience of God. He was more than a prophet. SP
