Hello,

this question is just for my general knowledge and also because it bugs the hell outta me. Im sikh and im a girl, my last name is Kaur. Becoz Guru Gobind SIngh ji said that sikh girls shall carry that after their names. And for guys, its Singh. Am i right? SO the confusing part is, how come there are non-sikhs who have "singh" behind their names?
Example: the golfer, Vijay singh? He isnt a sikh-im sure of that. And in hindi movies, all the baddies have singh behind their names- thats another stereotype-but then again thats another story.
SO how come all these hindu punjabi's have Singh behind their name?
Please tell me why...

(REPLY) Sat Nam. I think you would have to ask the people themselves. Are you sure they are not Sikhs? Why not write a letter, for instance to Vijay Singh? Let us know your result! SP
