In my spare time, I wrote poetry in emotional depth and my father recently told me that there are many poems in the Guru Granth Sahib, and so I decided to begin reading the Guru Granth Sahib ( but for more reasons then poetry). I can read punjabi but not as accuratley as you need to, to read the Guru Granth Sahib. There are also many things I cannot understand. To solve my problem, I found a site countaining the whole Guru Granth Sahib in english translation... Not written in english, but written and translated into english.

I would really like to know if reading the Guru Granth Sahib like this is wrong? I have tried for many months to read the Guru Granth Sahib in Gurmukhi and have failed.
Is my solution into reading the Guru Granth Sahib wrong?

Thank you...reagards...
(REPLY) Sat Nam. Of course it's not wrong to read the Siri Guru Granth Sahib in English! Good for you! However, also, do try to learn and practice reading in Gurmukhi, so that you get the experience of the original sounds, as they were spoken by the enlightened beings who gave us our "Shabd Guru." Different translators have come up with different translations, so ideally you learn to read the original, and then you can do your own translation into English! Meanwhile, it's great to read a translation in English already available. Blessings! SP
