WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa,

WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh

I just wanted to ask if youths nowadays still believe in arranged marriages or has living in different cultures changed thier views?
I believe that people make arranged marriages to be very bad, but they are more introductory.I think many people are allowed to have thier say which they should be grateful for.

This question probably has been answered many times on this web page. You could search under "arranged marriages" and see what other people have said.

I feel that arranged marriages can be a positive thing...they can also be a disaster.

I think they can be good if---
- the parents have thoroughly investigated the families involved.
- the couple's interests and goals in life are considered
- there is no pressure on the couple to have to get married
- the couple has an opportunity to get to know each other over a period of time
- the final decision rests with the couple not the parents if they get married or not. Children must be able to speak up and be heard.
- the parents have the best interest of their children in mind, not their needs and societal status
- communication between parents and children is open and compassionate
- parents and children thoroughly discuss the situation and really listen to eachother. There needs to be a group concensus, with the final decision resting with the couple involved.

If, on the other hand, these guidelines are not followed, arranged marriages can be disasterious for everyone. GTKK
