Summary of Question:Should Guru Granth Sahib Be Allowed In Halls
Category:Sikh Practices
Date Posted:Saturday, 5/19/2001 5:35 PM MDT

I have tried to ask the SGPC this question which has divided the Toronto Sangat many times and it seems like the SGPC is all a bunch of political puppets who are destroying our Religion. I am asking for clarification on a Hukamnama which banned the Guru Granth Sahib Ji from going to Halls. In toronto for the past 2 decades the Basakhi Nagar Kirtan was taken place in Downtown Toronto in a Stadium and this year we had two Nagar Kirtans because the SGPC who issued this Hukamnama could not clarify it. Can some tell me if Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is allowed in a Hall for a Nagar Kirtan where there is no alcohol or meat present. Please help me out on this since the Sikh religion has been divided enough by this Political Puppets in the SGPC.

Thanks

Greetings and blessings to you in the Name of God and Guru.

Khalsa-ji. I think that you are right with your concern. The political mismanagements are suffocating us.

The bottom line is that the Siri Guru Granth Sahib must always be maintained with full repect and protocol, no matter WHERE it resides. Guru could be maintained in a hut, a home or even a Gurdwara....but all respect must be given and maintained.

There is no problem for the Guru to preside in a Hall for a large event, when proper protocol is maintained. When we come together at Baisakhi time for a large gathering, better we unify in a large hall. We have these open air tents and Manji Sahib's in Punjab. But in the West, we usually look to a "Convention Center" that we can rent once or twice a year. There is no problem in this.

You obviously know what is appropriate for the Guru. Better to leave those unclear mandates alone, and do what the community needs to celebrate the consciousness and glory of our Siri Guru Granth Sahib and our Guru Purabs. Ours is a practical way of life, not a political rally. Go for it!

God bless you for asking. SKKK

God bless you, SKKK
