Summary of Question:Forced On False Premises
Category:Love & Marriage
Date Posted:Monday, 9/22/2003 11:08 PM MDT

Me and my girl love each other very much, the only problem is is that her Mom, bibi and massis don't agree with it because I am divorced and I am of a different caste. She is Jat, I am Ramgarhia. She has seen me for me, and she has accepted me for everything I am today. We are both educated in the health field. We understand each other very well, and we feel that we are meant to be. She had said that she would fight it and she has up until recently. Her mother and bibi had forced her to forget about me and made her swear on her father's life, he was in the hospital due to heart complications, for a surgery for valve replacement. They had blamed her on that as well, although he knows nothing of this yet. Her father is ok so far. They have tried to stop this for the past 3 months, but we are still doing whatever we can. The major things they bring up is the caste thing, but then sometimes bring up the divorce thing. The caste is giving them a big problem. We are deeply in love with each other and we are wondering what the hell to do. She has told them that what they are thinking is wrong and they turn around and change the topic. When her mother found out about this at first, she said that was wrong because of the caste and what other people are gonna think, my girl told her that Guru Nanak Dev Ji said there is no caste and there shouldn;t be any consideration about it. Her mom slapped her twice for that. What do you see is wrong here? Please explain as much as posible, in detail. Thank you ever so kindly.

********************************

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki fateh.

I see the Guru doing a very great thing here. The Gurus never believed in caste. Caste means nothing. Sikhs have no caste. Caste is a harmful tradition that the Gurus dismissed. There are many beautiful young souls in the Sikh community right now who have a destiny to love people from different castes, marry them and destroy this notion of Sikh caste once and for all. In your love, marry each other. In your duty, stand as Sikhs of the Guru and do not bow to any tradition that is against the Guru's teachings.

It is a tragedy that parents will fight with their own children who are striving to live free in the domain of God's Spirit. But you have to take a stand. Make a pact with each other that you will live as true Sikhs and as true Sikhs - your love is enough. Caste means nothing. Marry before the Guru, do your banis together, give yourself and your love to Him and let Him use your relationship as a tool to help heal this disease of caste that is plaguing the Sikh community.

May victory be yours.

Much love and many blessings,

GPK
