waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!

hi, i am a 14 year amritdhari girl, trying to be a good sikh. the problem is, i kno that im supposed to wake up at amrit vela and do nitnem and simran, but i cant. i set my alarm at 4:45 and try to get out of bed, but most of the time i just fall back asleep till me parents come and wake me up. then i do my patth, but i feel bad that i didnt wake up at amrit vela. for a while i tried reciting "amrit vela sach nao, vadiaee veechaar" when my alarm went off to motivate myself to get up. this worked for a little while, but then i started getting lazy again. then i tried telling myself that my guru told me to wake up at amritvela and i should always obey my guru. this didnt work very much. i feel that i am a very bad person, compared to the sikh rehit. could u help me by telling me what to do, or even set up a schedule for me to do my patth? also, i heard that theres different "sections" in the day, like 3 am-6am is amrit vela, etc. could u plz explain that. i would really appreciate ur help and i also think that
this q and a forum is really great, because it really helps alot of people.
thanks again, gurjeet kaur

Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji ki Fateh! Blessings to you, Gurjeet Kaur Ji for your earnest desire to rise in the amrit vela. You are not lazy and you are not a bad person. It is a hard thing to do for everyone. But your sadhana will lead to aradhana and so a habit is formed and it becomes your daily routine. Just like brushing your teeth and combing your hair.

Between the hours of 3 am and sunrise, the sun moves from an angle of 15 degrees below the horizon to above the horizon. Guru Ji gave us this time for our sadhana because we can ride the wave of solar energy as it rises and carries us into the day. It is the time when the ethers are most clear, before the noise and hustle and bustle of the day interferes with our dhyan.

Here is a suggestion that may work for you. It worked for me. You cannot resist the sound of your own voice. Get an alarm clock that plays an audio cassette tape or a CD and make a recording of yourself telling yourself to get up. Something like this, perhaps, "Gurjeet Kaur, this is Gurjeet Kaur speaking. It is time to get up now. You want to get up. You need to get up. Get up now! Do your ishnan and your nitnem."

You figure out what works for you, but you will see that it is impossible to argue with yourself. Try it and let me know how it works for you.

All love in divine, .....G
