Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Dear Khalsa Ji,

By Guru's grace and after reading this awesome youth q&a forum I have devolped a very good understanding about Sikh religion. This was something totally new to me, so I had no better choice than posting the question here.

I have seen several people in different places, who come in Sangat, while keertan is being sung, and they loose their control and start shouting or crying in different type of voices. I studied about it, it is explained in some books that some people, while meditation reach at a certain level, where the see something extra ordinery and then they cannot handle it (so to speak) and they loose their mental balance.

Recently in happened in our family, one of my Aunt had the similar experience. She lives in Punjab, so I just became to know from my parents. They told me that Aunty is visiting some Sant ji in Punjab itself, and he says that one soul has entered in her. She is the one who is talking unusual things and crying and shouting etc. I was taking it very lightly, having the understanding that it is just the similar condition what I talked about here.

I had been believing the same untill I sent her to see one of my good friend, who is a Gursikh person, and does meditation and knows much more than I know. He explained the same thing to her and then they did paath and he said that this soul shall depart now, it is Gursikh lady's soul and she is agreeing on leaving. You take Amrit and your family shall take Amrit too. From that day they all took Amrit and she is perfectly ok now. I was amazed when they told me this, that this concept of soul is real. I donno, I cannot deny Gurmukh veer ji's words I respect him and understand that he knows much more than me, but on the other side my heart doesn't apeal for such reason. I have already tried looking for some quotes from Dhun Dhun Guru Granth Sahib ji, which could explain little more about it. Please help me that what a Gursikh's view should be for this matter? What Gurbani states on this concept?

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa
Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

There is a lot in the Universe that our intellect cannot comprehend, and often times we do look to people with deep spiritual understanding for guidance in those moments. Sometimes what these people say doesn't make sense to us. But Guru teaches that everything - even occult powers or deep mystical experiences - come from the same Great Giver, God Himself. If they happen, they happen. The key is to not get attached to these things or to give them any special significance.

Someone while meditating on Gurbani may have an extraordinary experience and act in an unusual way. Does this mean soemthing special is going on? No. It means their nervous system can't handle the expansion of the soul. It's better to have a strong nervous system so when God does bless you with certain experiences, you can hold the experience and integrate it into yourself in a wholistic way. What happened to your Aunt may be simply that she expreienced something her nervous system couldn't handle - but that the language of talking about it in terms of a soul entering her body and a soul leaving her body was the only way for her to consciously process the experience. Spirituality is a very internal process and it isn't so important that we have the terminology correct or that my intellect understands what you are doing. It's important to rely on the Guru's words that all souls are guided by God, that God gives each soul the experiences that it needs to awaken, and we don't have the capacity in our intellect to comprehend His Play. What we have is the capacity in our hearts to love it.

So, if I were you, I would chalk this one up to "Beyond the Intellect" and just meditate on the love you have for your Aunt and for all people who the Guru has guided, by straight or unusual methods, to take Amrit.

All love.
