Hello, salaam, and sat siri akaal!!!

I am a muslim woman who intends to marry a sikh man. He is and will remain a baptised sikh and i am a practicing muslim. We are both religious, and understand the beauties of each other's faiths. Our children will follow whichever religion they choose....The only dillema is that although my family and his father have congratulated us, his mother is very anxious about our intended marriage- even though as a punjabi family we have the same language, culture, and personality. Apparently, Guru Gobing Singh had said that no sikh should have intimate relations with any muslim. I do not understand this at all, as I have in the past read sikh literature and understood it to be a very tolerant religion...
Perhaps the reason guruji made such a statement was because he thought that when someone of another religion marries a muslim, then that person must convert to islam. There are some orthodox muslims (who might have been around when guruji said this) who try to convert a person who is marrying a muslim. But this is not the true muslim way- according to the quran, a muslim can marry anyone who beleives in one God. In fact, I know a few muslim men and woman who are happily married to christians...We love each other very much, and would never let any harm come to one another. But this is a very painful situation- Please give me your thoughts on the issue.

Sat Siri Akaal. This issue has been addressed on this site; but I am posting this reply because few people know about what you say in teh second of your paragraphs: that Muslims can marry anyone who believes in ONE God. Many youth write in about this issue.

Anyway, what 10th Master said has been taken OUT of context: he said it when his Sikh soldiers asked if they should take Muslim women prisoners of war and have sex with them/rape them, since the Muslims were doing that to Sikh women. Guruji said not to have relations with Muslim women; his intent was for Sikhs to always exemplify conciousness, not revenge. He told his soldiers that Sikhs are no better than those they fought if they felt they needed to take sexual advantage of Muslim women prisoners.
