Summary of Question:Naam Simran--Best Way?

Sat Siri Akaal.

Before I begin with my question, I wanted to thank every one at Siknet for making dreams become reality. Siknet has become an important part of my life, beginning from the daily,Hukamnama to the various banis which I listen to and recite on a daily basis (Japji Sahib,Shabad Hazare,Japp Sahib, Tav Prasad Swaiya, Anand Sahib, Rehiras Sahib, kirtan Sohila, and Sukhmani Sahiba). Earlier today I was reading the various discussions posted on "Sikh Youth Q & A"
I came across something that I was a bit puzzled on the sentence read (None of these recommendations is complete without daily meditation on the naam to attain neutral mind and an inner accord with Guru's guidance!) What is considered to be the correct method or is there a particular sequence
to meditate on the naam on a daily basis. Thank you in advance..

Sat SIri Akaal. We are happy this site is such a service to you!
There are many ways to meditate. For a Gursikh, these are the primary criteria:
(1) sit straight on the floor (on a pillow is OK) or in a chair with feet flat. A straight spine is critical in any meditative practice. Eyes should be closed or almost completely closed. (2) cover your head with cotton or other natural fabric (turban of course is fine) (3) we're not talking about a couple of minutes. The Gurus meditated for hours at a time. Start slowly and simply; perhaps 11 minutes a day, then build your time up to 31 or 62 minutes in one sitting. While ambrosial hours of the morning is the best time, our lives don't always make that easy. What is most important is doing it DAILY, at the same time in your routine (e.g., after arising, before bed, before dinner, whatever). It will become a habit and happily, one you will find, in time, you feel empty without! (4) if you can, practice with others. The energy of sangat magnifies ANY meditative experience. Whether family or friends, make it a group thing! (5) rest for a bit afterwards. Not necessarily sleep, but sit or lay down in a relaxed fashion for a bit to consolidate the effects of meditation. Don't go jump in your car!

From there, choose a mantra you resonate with. Mul mantra that opens SGGS is fine. SatnaamWahayGuroo is good. First slok of Sukhmani is good. Ek Ong Kar Sat Guruprasad is good.
You can research meditation on Sikhnet/Youth Forum. There is a whole category called meditation.
Guru ang sang,
-DKK
