Summary of Question:Where Is This Documented?

I have been through your search engine but have not found any convincing answer to the question " Why do sikhs have to keep long hair?" Most of the answers given in the search engines relate to positive energy, vitamin D , and Guru's orders. Is this documented anywhere in the holy books of the sikhs, and if so on what pages. I want to know where does it say that we must keep long hair, what should the length of the hair be, can it be trimmed(for neatness) or not. I also want to know that could this be a requirement of the war period during which this command was supposedly given by the 10th guru.

Thanks

Not cutting the hair on ANY part of the body is part of the "Rehit Maryada" given by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. This includes not trimming the beard or nose hairs or plucking the eyebrows. You can find this written in the book of Rehit Maryada written by the SGPC in India. You can also refer to the book on Sikhnet: "VICTORY AND VIRTUE, CEREMONIES AND CODE OF CONDUCT OF SIKH DHARMA. You can read all about it in chapter 2.
