Question for you guys. I may rant a bit, but the subject matter is something that angers me a great deal. I hope you can answer my question.

I hope you're familiar with the case of Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu, the girl from Maple Ridge who was murdered in India simply because she fell in love with a man that her parents didn't like. Recently, CBC aired a film and documentary about her. I thought us Sikhs were supposed to stand up for justice and equality. We're supposed to be brave and honourable. But what happened to that girl was cowardly and disgusting. It's said her mother and uncle are the ones who ordered her death, all over this sense of 'honour'. Marriage for some reason, was viewed as a business arrangement to them. Yet, according to the Youth Forum, marriage is a union of two souls. Obviously, Jassi and her husbanf loved each other. They were both Sikhs. What was the problem here? If the mother and uncle are actually innocent of her death, then why don't they go to India and prove it? Too scared or something? Damn, you know, right now, Jassi's husband is rotting in a jail cell somewhere in Punjab? Why haven't the RCMP extradited the two perpetrators yet? The Indian government stated that they would be charged under conspiracy if convicted, a crime that is not punishable by death. How is it that these people are apparently still influental in the Sikh community? They're not Sikh. Far from it. We're supposed to be 'preaching' justice and equality. The caste system should not exist. But it seems not many practice what they preach. Strange, huh? A daughter dead all over the sake of honour that should not exist? You said in another question that vigilantism is wrong, and I'm not saying that it's not. But if the cops won't do anything about it, each passing day puts vigilante justice in a better and better light.

Sorry if I'm ranting, but what do you guys think about all this? It fills me with hatred.

Sat Nam. If events are truly as you describe--and there are always several sides to a story--then this event reeks of injustice as viewed from the world of humans. But remember that everything that happens in this world operates on the law of karma: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and the people involved created and paid karmas. This teaching is reflected throughout Siri Guru Granth and is the law of Waheguru.
Of course we don't 'like' it. Of course it's upsetting. And frankly, there is NOTHING you can do directly to change the immediate situation. Nor is there anything Sikhnet Youth Forum moderators can do but what we already do.
We CAN pray for all those involved. We can pray that panth khalsa live the light of Guru's teachings. And you can choose now to live your own life in hatred (which will attract hateful things to you) OR in love, which will attract loving and positive things to you. Try to have compassion for the ones involved, who clearly don't see the error of their thinking. And remember that many call themselves Sikh, but their non-Sikh actions speak much louder than their labels.
Guru ang sang,
