Hello

One of my friends said that, it is not good idea to eat meat if your family is Sikh. Also she said if you eat meat you turn in to that when you die. I didn?t understand their, anyway can you tell me if it is true or is she just playing jokes on me.

(REPLY) There are over 250 messages on SikhNet about meat eating, so I suggest you search them out! Meanwhile, simply this: Your body is the living temple of God; when you eat meat, you are polluting your body with a substance that leaves a residue of toxic waste (uric acid) that is carcinogenic. So, from a simple health point of view, eating meat is not a good idea. Furthermore, when the animal is slaughtered, it is terrified, and so it secretes adrenalin, which goes into the flesh that a meat-eater has to digest. Animals that are carnivorous have fangs and claws and short digestive tracts, so they can digest meat quickly; we humans are not equipped that way. There are passages in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib (you can find them by doing a search under "Meat" on the SikhNet website) that clearly tell us not to eat meat. As for what happens after you die, that depends upon your predominant thoughts at the time of death -- and that is why it is recommended to get into the habit of meditating daily and repeating God's Name until it becomes deeply embedded in your consciousness!

Wahe Guru! Blessings, Sp
