Sat Siri Akaal. This is not something we can answer for you. You have to decide for yourself. It is a form of body alteration, it seems to me.
I do not think the tightness of the jura is the only thing. There is no need for anyone to tie one's hair or turban so tight that it causes pain. You are not being punished, this is as much about your genes and how you take care of yourself as anything. I suggest you see a hair specialist (like a well-trained barber, frankly, who knows hair from the outside), and be sure you are using shampoo that doesn't overdry the hair, as well as conditioner or quality oil (I do not recommend mineral oil) to keep the scalp and hair conditioned. NOTE: The idea of seeing the barber or hair stylist is NOT for cutting, it is for their expertise on hair CARE. Hair loss in men is genetic as much as anything. Hair can also dry and fall out from other medical conditions as well as from using the wrong shampoo and/or no oil or conditioner, that dries out the hair making it easy for it to snap, break, and come out.
Also, it is important to let the hair down periodically. A lot of Sikhs put their hair in a long braid down the back for sleeping. This gives the head and scalp a break from the pressure of always being knotted. Hope this helps. Guru rakha,
