hi

i am almost 18 years old and me and my family have gone through a lot of bad things for a long time because someone has done black magic on us. I was never really a believer, i never believed that people actually had powers to do things to other people and i still dont understand how people can have so much hatred in them to even think of doing something like this to other people.

My question is if god is the one giving these powers to certain people then why give it to people who are not good at heart? i mean there are so many people who use their gift to hurt other people, people they dont even know and all just for money why not just not give anyone powers or give it to people who wont do bad things with it

Also do these people get punished for using their gift to hurt other people? this topic to me is very confusing and if you guys can shed any light on this topic i would be very gratful

Thanks for your help

(REPLY) Sat Nam. You're asking for an answer to one of the most profound questions that humans have been asking for thousands of years! How can "evil" exist? The answer is simple. The universe was created by God's will in which God gave people free will. The Universe is governed by certain laws, such as the law of karma, and if anyone does "evil" they will suffer for it, but not necessarily in this lifetime. Karma is the law of action and reaction, so no one ever "escapes" payment for deeds they have done. By the grace of God and Guru, we can, however, through living the Dharma make OUR lives better, and modify some of the "bad" karma we have earned. You might say, "where there is Dharma there is no karma." Your family might try doing a lot of Path, and especially chanting to Guru Ram Das, the Lord of Miracles, for protection. A wonderful mantra for protection is "AAD GURAY NAMEH, JUGAAD GURAY NAMEH, SAT GURAY NAMEH, SIRI GURU DAVAY NAMEH." And visualize Guru Nanak protecting you on your right side as you recite the first section, then Guru Angad behind you as you recite the second, Guru Amar Das for the third, and finally know that Guru Ram Das is in front of you. And remember, in the Ardas is say that we "sarbat da balaa" - wish good to ALL. That means even wishing good, and blessings our enemies! SP
