Lately I have been reading the Christian Bible and I agree with many of the things written in there. But I also agree with many of the things taught in the Sikh religion as well. So my question is can I follow more than one religion? Can be a Sikh as well as being a Christian and following their commandments and believing in Jesus Christ while believing in Guru Nanak Dev Ji etc.? Please answer...thanks!

You know the basic principles in all religions are very similar. There are some basic differences between Christians and Sikhs. 1- Christians believe that Christ is the ONLY son of God. Sikhs believe that we are all the sons and daughters of God. Also, God placed certain great spiritual leaders when it was needed on earth...Christ, Mohamed, Buddha, Guru Nanak, etc. Sikhs recognize all of them. Christians only recognize Christ as the True One. 2- Most Christians believe that Christianity is the only way to salvation. In other words, all non-Christians are Damned forever. Sikhs believe that all religions lead of God. 3- Christians believe in Heaven and Hell after death. Sikhs believe that we create Heaven and Hell right here on earth. Which brings us to the 4th difference. 4- Christians belive that we have one physical life, whereas Sikhs believe that we have many lives, in which to work out our karmas.

I think it is possible to be a Sikh and embody the principles of other "paths" in the living of your life. For example, Christians preach forgiveness, but don't all religions preach forgiveness as well? In other words, I don't think you have to proclaim yourself a Christian, or Buddhist, or Muslim to also live those "ideals." Most ideals of all religions are very compatible. Live your life as purely and completely as you can, without worrying about how to identify yourself. Every year I go to a healing workshop in Assisi, Italy, the home of St. Francis. I am a Sikh, but I acknowledge and honor the work of this great Christian and healer. I don't have to be a Christian to do that. So, think about it and do what is best for you. GTKK
