Summary of Question:Does My Sister Have An "Evil" Name?

I have a question that has remained in my family now for almost 15 yrs. My name is Simerjit Singh and I am 13 yrs. old. Here's the story:

When my older sister was born 18 years ago, my mom searched through her nitnam for a suitable name. She found the word Anneeth. I personally think that this a beatiful name, However some controversy arose a few years later. One of my mom's close friends who was also a sikh wanted to name her newborn daughter Anneeth. She first consulted my mom and asked here if it was alright and my mom said yes. Later on she talked to her mother in India. Her mother said that the name Anneeth had something to do with evil. She ended up not naming her daughter Anneeth and informed my mom. My mom wanted to find out want it meant. she forgot about this until a few years ago when our family went to India. She tried to search for the meaning of her name but came up with nothing. Many people said that this word did not exist in religious writings. My mom even forgot were she found Anneeth in the nitnem! We asked people here in the U.S. but nothing came up. Our only lead was my mom's friend's mother who said it was an evil name, bu

t she had passed away. Our last chance was the internet, where we found nothing until I found your website! Please put this mystery to rest in our family and tell us what the name Anneeth means!

P.S. It maybe spelled Anneet.

Sincerely,
Simerjit Singh

Dear Simerjit Singh;
Sat Siri Akaal.

I asked a Sikh Punjabi scholar about this name. Anneet/Anneeth means Deathless, that which does not die. It is hardly an evil meaning or an evil name!!!

Guru rakha,
