Summary of Question:Eating Kosher Food - Is It Allowed?

I have a question about eating kosher food. I know as a Sikh we are not allowed to eat halal food but is there anything written about eating kosher food? I have searched the internet and have found that some sites say Sikhs are not allowed to eat halal or kosher food, while others just mention that Sikhs are not allowed to halal. I have to attend a Jewish function soon and was wondering what the protocol was.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. This is just a misunderstanding about what you think "Kosher" food is. You can eat ANY food, so long as it's not MEAT, FISH, CHICKEN or EGGS. The prohibition is probably referring to meat that has been butchered according to Kosher protocol. Interestingly enough, a Kosher kitchen will not cook dairy and meat dishes (nor serve them) together! Enjoy the Jewish function, and just don't eat the meat! Blessings, SP
