fateh!

i just wanted to ask about the reply given to a writer to sikhnet. the writer asked if it was ok to take capsuls prescribed by the doctor, even if they had beef extract. the reply was

"Do not worry. Many vegetarians need to take certain medicines or supplements which are derived from animal sources. When purchasing dietary supplements of your own choosing (like vitamins) you may choose non-meat sources and vegetable gelatin capsules, etc. But when a doctor says that it is important to take this treatment, then it is okay. "

since sikhnet believes that eating meat is not the sikh way, this may not be a very agreeabel statement. however here goes.--if many vegetarians have to take capsuls that have animal extracts, then why not just have a little meat as a part of a balanced diet? either way capsul or regualr mean one is still consuming the ingredients of a dead animal....why not just eat some meat so that you wont have to take the capsul....better in the long run isnt it?....no medical side effects.

forgive me for my mistakes and if i offended anyone.

Yes, this is a touchy issue. It is a matter of intent. It is intent that creates the karma. If the intent is to eat meat because one likes to eat meat, that is one thing. If one is taking a concentrated medicine or supplement for medical necessity, then it is quite another.
