Dear Sikhnet - what does Sikhism think about Suicide Bombers ?? Are they looked upon as being brave because they give their lives for their faith, or are they looked at committing the ultimate crime for committing suicide ??

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

Suicide bombers are cowards who indiscriminantly kill others and themselves without a fight. The image of the sage-warrior, given by Guru Gobind Singh, is a warrior who has no vengence and no fear. The Khalsa only defends, never attacks and only fights with other warriors. Suicide bombing is an act of cowardice that takes the lives of innocent civilians and the only purpose of it is to inflict fear on others. The Khalsa neither fears nor causes others to fear. Our model of a warrior is one of compassion, absolute respect for the power that comes with wielding weapons, never picking up the sword until ALL avenues have been exhausted and then only picking it up in self-defense against those who are attacking. Guru Gobind Singh when fighting on the battle field would talk to the people he was fighting and try to convince them to lay down their weapons. When he shot arrows, he tied a pice of gold to the shaft of the arrow so that whoever he wounded would have money for medicine or, if his arrow killed someone, the gold would help provide for the warrior's family. This is a path of honor, not deceit. Suicide bombers have no bravery whatsoever. If they were brave, they would face their enemy and fight as a true warrior does. These are fanatic cowards who have no strength, no self-control, no discipline and no honor.

I hope this ansers your question.

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.
