i read the question about why punjabi women wear jeans and not salwar kameez. and i hope the person who wrote it gets my answer so that he can understand.

first of all, guru granth sahin does not say, that a woman needs to wear salwar kammez. any clothes that cover u fully is appropriate. it could be salwar kameez, jean and shirts, long skirts or fully covered sarees.

i m basing this as moslty punjabi people are sikhs. so sikh religion is different than our culture. culture can have a lot of things wrong with it. in punjabi culture we have dowry,religion does not approve it. punjabi culture still differentiates between a boy and girl, religion dont; punjabi cultured people still go to abortion clinics but religion tells u value a human life. punjabi culture still has caste system, religion dont. in pujabi culture, a lot of women still are very superstituous, religion tell u not to be; in punjabi culture, a lot of people are still following around those FAKE SANTS or baba, religion tells u to believe in only one god and nobody else. and the list can go on forever.
we dont wear salwar kameez, may be we are more comfortable wearing jeans. and if u think that a punjabi girl wear jeans to show off her body....then u r very wrong because a salwar kameez can be more revealing than a top and a jean.
u dont hear us complaining that oh why guys dont wear kurta and chaddar as according to punjabi culture, that should be men's dress. so why 99% boys in punjab wear pants?
i adore our punjabi dress and i proudly wear my dress occasionly in between all of my American friends. My own parents tell me that i look more beautiful when I wear a Punjabi salwar kameez, or a lahenga. but i normally feel more relaxed in my jeans or in my pajamas. so u wear something to stay comfortable all day not to look hot and sexy.
