Hi,

i'm a 16 year old female.about 3 years ago i became a vegetarian.I'm in what i would consider to be one of my most important years (academically). The problem is i'm always tired and feel mentally/physically drained constantly.I try to get enough sleep but even then ppl who get less sleep than me seem more energetic.I am constantly being told by ppl/teachers that we should b eating alot of meat,in particular raw fish to obtain the Omega oils.I have considered going back 2 meat bt i dnt want to.I'm under a lot of stress as i need extremely high marks this year to go on and do the course that ive always wanted to do.I used to take multivitamins but then threw them out when i realised they contained pork extracts. Now i mainly take vitamin C and eat alot of fruit.got any ideas?....

Sat Nam! You can get the Omega3 oils your brain needs from vegetarian sources. You do not need to eat meat, fish, poultry or eggs to get them. I have been a vegetarian for over 30 years and have lots of energy and mental clarity. If you continue to feel tired all the time, you need to see a physician and get a blood workup, and if recommended, a sleep study as well. You may be sleeping enough, but your sleep may be interrupted by apnea or other problems that prevent the deep, most restful sleep your body needs. It is not necessary to sleep a lot if your sleep is effective.

Good vegeratian sources for Omega3 fatty acids are: flaxseed, canola oil, nuts and avocados.
