Summary of Question:American Sikh, Feeling Very Alone
Category:General Sikhism
Date Posted:Sunday, 1/22/2006 11:28 AM MST

I am relatively new to Sikhism. I love Sikhism sooo much, and I try really hard to adhere to all of the rules, like I dont cut my hair and I wake up and say Japji Sahib every morning, but I feel very alone as a white American Sikh convert. I converted on my own, out of love for the religion and for God, and I had no one who taught me about the religion. I researched everything on my own from books, and online. I only have one sikh friend, and he lives in india. I feel like I need someone to teach me and tell me if Im doing everything correctly. I am also a bit nervous to go to a gurdwara (there are 3 in my area, I live in Randolph, MA), because I wont know anyone. Im feeling really alone, could you please help me. Thank you very much.

Sat nam. http://www.sikhnet.com/Sikhnet/directory.nsf/Gurdwaras!OpenView&Start=46.13&Count=30&Expand=46.21#46.21 is the sikhnet site for gurdwaras in Massachusetts. Of course you feel alone. Sikhs need sangat. I hope you didn't convert because of one friend. In any event, you can browse Sikhnet.com and learn facts about Sikhi, but it's not really an intellectual faith. It is one of experience. So find a congregation (sangat) and go to gurdwara. Be bold. Go and start asking questions. Explain your situation. People will do their best to help you have the experience. If the weblink doesn't work, go to Sikhnet.com, then find a gurdwara link. Then United States, then Massachusetts. Guru ang sang,
