Summary of Question:Help, I Have Resistance To Doing Paath
Category:Meditation
Date Posted:Tuesday, 5/27/2003 5:57 PM MDT

Hi,

Can anyone help me please. I want to do paath, but i cannot concentrate when i sit to do it. 3 years ago, i was going through very hard times, and i started doing paath, it was very helpful and i used to feel good. Then slowly and slowly i have started to lose my faith, and find it hard to do paath.
I am going to very bad times again. I am personally destroyed due to many reasons. I feel noone loves me, everyone i loved at some time has always left me. But still i want to live my life since there are people i know who need me. And i owe my life to them and have to live for them.
Can someone please help me, as i believe only faith in God and paath is something that can help me.
Thanks

Sat Siri Akaal. We all go through difficult times. Paath is the anchor for our life. You are in resistance to doing paath, which may be a function of the other difficulties in your life. Frankly, you just have to DO it. You may find that you are unable to concentrate, but the first time you overcome resistance is hardest. Then you will sit the next day to do it and you will be in resistance, but it won't be as hard. Resistance breaks down by force of habit: force yourself to do the paath and then you will quickly find you have no trouble. While it is far better to concentrate on paath, the words are still sacred, so doing them even when we have trouble fully engaging with it is still better than not doing it at all.
I highly recommend you do full Sukhmani Sahib daily. Just do it. Try to do it daily for 40 days straight and see if you don't feel better.
By the way, life is full of comings and goings of the people we meet and know and love. It is part of life. Be grateful for having known someone and move on, bless them in your heart and let them go. Do not take their leaving personally, understand that we would never grow if we did not travel through life, knowing some people and letting them go. We are travelers on this planet, all of us.
