Summary of Question:Sikhism As The Only Way?
Category:General Sikhism

My name is Sandeep Singh, I was born a Sikh but never have practise the religion... I guess some parents should push the children to learn about religion and our history of where we come from and who we are. I do strongly believe in GOD and there is no power stronger out there. I am making steps to become a better person but peoples past sometimes leads them astray and the important things in life no longer matter.

The question I have is that Sikhism is the one of the newest religion out there but where does that leave the other religion that started 100,000 years ago?

Is Sikhism right and everyone wrong?

Did Guru Nanak not go around and spread the word of love? Did he not see so much heart ache, pain, deaths over religion and just wanted everyone to get along and become God fearing?

So another religion beginning is that not taking away the principle of what Guru Nanak wanted.

I believe that there too many religions out there and people get caught up on which one is better. Should we not leave this behind and love everyone as a human being as a brother regardless of religion and colour I fell that this has divided people once again!

Please note I am not disrespecting the religion in any way or form im just a confused Sikh.

Many thanks

Sat nam. Study Sikhi and read the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Nanak did not decide that all other paths are wrong. He taught that spirituality is attained by meditation on the naam, however one defines 'naam.' He said you can be Muslim, Hindu, Christian and chant the naam. He did not teach that his way is the only way. Sikh Guru Teg Bahadur was martyred on behalf of a hindu who was being forced to convert to Islam. Guru let the Mughal emperors know through his martyrdom that everyone has a right to worship AS THEY CHOOSE.

But Sikhi teaches us that everyone describes God according to their own understanding, and as a result, the faith/practices of one individual is not appropriate for another. Culture and language play a big part in these choices.
Your other points are spot on. It is unfair to discriminate against another because of their faith, and it goes against Sikhi to do so.
Guru ang sang,
DK
