hello, i want to marry my takhen b/friend but i am not aloud as he is a low caste. is there anyway around this issue. i need help what shall i do, as my parents will never allow it and have said this me as well.

They say if he were a sani then that would be ok, but takhen is way too low.
(i thought they were about the same whats the big differance?)

I have nobody who is on my side, apart from one or two friends but no one else has they just dont want to get involved.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. It is very sad that we call ourselves Sikhs, but still label other Sikhs by "caste." This caste system was established by the Hindus, it has NO PLACE in the Sikh religion. Relating to caste is contrary to the teachings of Guru Nanak all the way through to and including Guru Gobind Singh. This cultural barrier is outdated, wrong, and ignorant. The important thing is the character of the man you want to marry, and the values that you share and want to pass along to your children. I am so sorry that this question of caste continues to plague the young people of today. God willing, this prejudice will end. May God bless you and Guru guide you with courage and wisdom. SP
