Hi,

I just wanted to express my disappointment with the way the moderator(s) answered this Q posed by Mr Cork. You failed to mention that Sikhi has always stood up for human rights, freedom of speech and freedom of worship. Anybody who bothered to research Sikhism would see this clearly by the actions of our gurus, other Sikhs and from what is written in our Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The media in the UK has labelled us Sikhs as fundamentalists who are against freedom of speech - this just goes to show their lack of knowledge and ignorance about Sikhism. This situation is not helped by the WEAK responses many Sikhs have given the media when challenged by people such as Mr Cork. I am not saying that you should have an arguement with people like Mr Cork but at least in any response encourage them to research into Sikhi and TELL THEM that Sikhi is not at all against freedom of speech.

Please do not think that I am having a go at the moderators or telling them how to do their job, because I understand how difficult your job is and I do think you guys do a super job.

Please if you are posed such questions in the future give a more powerful and positive reponse back to the person.

Sat nam. I agree with you, generally. If you look at my post, I was not talking about Sikhi but about a cross-cultural values matter that is bigger than Sikhi. The other thing that is important to realize about the Birmingham conflict is that it is intra-cultural. I am not personally convinced that Sikhs truly value freedom of speech when the matter at stake is as 'intra-Sikh' as this one. In any case, the Youth Forum is not really a place for this entire discussion, frankly. The Sikhnet chat or discussion rooms is more suited to this. Thanks.
