HEAD-ON CRASH KILLS MODESTO WOMAN: A Modesto woman died from injuries she sustained Sunday in a car crash on Hatch Road, west of Parks Road, the California Highway Patrol reported. The collision was reported at 11:35 a.m. Nirmal Kaur, 46, was in a 1995 Mazda Millenia heading east on Hatch, along with driver Harman Kaur, 22, and passenger Parmeet Kaur, 18, both of Modesto. Witnesses told investigators the Mazda was traveling about 40 mph when it veered into the westbound lane of Hatch, hitting a 1995 Nissan Maxima driven by Gurwinder Singh, 23, of Modesto. Both vehicles had swerved onto the north shoulder of Hatch in an attempt to avoid each other. Nirmal Kaur was flown to Doctors Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Harman Kaur was taken to Memorial Medical Center, but the CHP said his injuries did not appear serious. Parmeet Kaur and Singh also had minor injuries, but were treated at the scene by paramedics. The collision was still under investigation Sunday evening.
