Summary of Question:Havina A Child Is An Act Of Lust, Guru Says Lust Is Bad?

As sikhs we are encouraged to get married and bring up a sikh family, however lust is one of the five sins. I don't understand this, as an act of lust is required to have a child.

Sat Siri Akaal. Everyone thinks having sex = lust, period. This is absurd. Sex between married people is (ideally!) an act of LOVE, not lust. BIG difference. Lust in the sense the Gurus used means (1) uncurbed sexual appetite, as in where sex is all the person thinks of or it's how a person spends most of their time; (2) wanton sex that does not involve a spouse and does not involve commitment or love.
Remember that all but the 8th Guru were HUSBANDS. They had wives. They had kids. The whole point of Guru Nanak's message and all the Gurus' teachings is that we can be Sikh, we can be householders and we can still have the experience of the Naam by making time within our daily, household/working lives, to meditate.
Here is what 3rd Guru Amar Das said:
"THIRD MEHL: They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together. They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies." [ang 788] The act of loving sex is surely one way to have one light in two bodies.
Guru ang sang,
