Dear Sikhnet Brothers & Sisters - WJKK WJKF - I know that Guru Hargobind Ji used to carry two swords Miri & Piri to symbolise temporal and spiritual authority, but what does this actually mean ?? Ie what does this mean to the daily life of a Sikh in this day and age ??

----

In our modern time, to me, miri piri carries a message of being a "warrior saint." We need to be warriors in our every day lives. This comes in the form of fearlessly standing up for righteousness, honesty, integrity, and commitment to one's values. Being a modern warrior means that I know who I am and will defend my identity under all circumstances. Being a modern warrior means that I will defend with my words and actions (not violently) injustices and hurts to others. A modern warrior isn't afraid to do what's "right", even if it means going against what's popular at the moment. A modern saint is working on his/her consciousness to be connected to his/her Oneness and divinity. A modern saint has a daily spiritual practice, which carries him/her through all adversity and challenge. One has to develop the inner first, and the outer expression will follow. For example, if one expreriences the Oneness within, that person will have a much harder time separating from all of life. I hope this is a start for discussion. GTKK
