Summary of Question:I've Decided To Cut My Hair
Category:Hair
Date Posted:Tuesday, 5/07/2002 4:29 PM MDT

I've been reading this site for a long time. i would like to say that I have now decided to cut my hair. i have kept my hair since birth (i am over 20 years old now). i don't see what the big deal about hair is. I know you guys say that the gurus said to keep hair and stuff. but the gurus said to do a lot of things and hair has nothing to do with anything except identity. i can be a good person without hair. there is no reference in sggs that says to keep hair. keeeping hair is a ritual. so is cutting hair. so either way its the same thing. i don't need hair to be a good person or to be religious or to believe in sikhism. i don't need you guys to tell me some BS about how hair acts as an antenna or captures energy. i am positive that there have been people in history who were "saved" and cut their hair.

so i just wanted to say that i'm cutting my hair since it is not necessary.
(REPLY) Sat Nam. Great! If that is going to make you happy, go ahead! Just notice that no matter how often or how much you cut it, God keeps trying to grow it back again, it would seem as if God thinks hair is necessary. I think there's a message here for you. Yes, you can be a good person, and I hope you are. Gobind Singh was not only a Saint and a soldier and a Guru, he was very wise, and he told his Sikhs to keep their hair -- and he - in humility -- did not put any of his teachings in the SGGS -- that's why it's not in there. So, God bless you, I hope you will not regret your decision. If you were sure it was the right decision, you wouldn't be so adamant about it! Blessings, SP
