A person has recently posted on Sikhi and homosexuality, and said that it is time to begin changing the unfortunate cultural prejudice against gays among the Sangat and the world at large.

I have spent a long time researching this topic, because through P-Flag (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and other organizations, I stand up for the equal rights of gays... in and out of the Sangat. I also have found no evidence suggesting that our Guruji says anything against gays; but why should He do so, when He created them and loves them all? I have brought gay friends to our Gurudwara, and they leave there in peace because our temple is a place where there is just Praise the Lord, and no condemnation. When I have trouble doing my simran and thinking of why God is great, one of the things I remember that He accepts my buddies.

There is no place for prejudice on this planet. Now more than ever we need to embrace all our differences, or we will end up killing each other. That means ALL differences: color, nationality, orientation.

To all of you who fear and do not understand God's gay children, I tell you: they're your brothers and sisters. Love them. Please respect the lives they were created to live. Guruji meant for their "gayness," it is his will and part of His creation.

To you who are yet "in the closet," be strong: The Lord loves you, and don't let the prejudice of those who don't understand you hurt you. You may someday be the ones to start a network for gay Sikhs who need their safe space. Your love and rememberance of God makes you Sikh; your choice of marriage partner does not.
