Summary of Question:Are Sikhs Plain And Blatant Book Worshippers?
Category:Sikh Practices

Beckerlegge quotes a charge made in a Sikh publication that 'we are becoming plain and blatant book worshippers'. Can you explain the basis for this charge and suggest ways in which other sikhs might have countered it?

Sat Siri Akaal. I don't know who this Beckerlegge is. I don't know what SIkh publication he is referencing. Anyone who calls devoted Gursikhs 'book worshippers' clearly doesn't understand Sikh teachings or history. He or she clearly doesn't get that Siri Guru Granth Sahib represents Shabd Guru, and Shabd Guru has always been the Guru of Sikhs and of the 10 Gurus. To the uninformed or close-minded, it indeed may look like Sikhs are book-worshippers. So what! The devoted Gursikh has his or her own relationship with Guru and with Siri Guru Granth Sahib, and taken together, the sangat has a relationship with Siri Guru.

There is no need to waste time or breath on defending such ill-informed and/or vicious charges. Use your breath to remember God's name, and use your time to serve others in God's name!
Guru fateh,
