sat ri akaal,

may i comment on how grateful i am for the seva that you are doing for us all.

I live in Canada and am nearly 25 yuears old. I come from a Hindu-punjabi background but my parents worship 'both' Hinduism and Sikhism. When i was at a young age, it began hard for me to pray to two different gods, two different religions therefore i decided i had to chose one that was true to me. I choose Sikhism and strongly believe in its way of life and teaching. Nevertheless, my mum still says to me "hinduism, Sikhism, they are all the same" I know that this is not true.

My parents are saying that is the age for me to marry, and i have no objection in them finding me a boy. however, i have two problems at this stage. number one is that they keep showing me hindu boys whereas i want to marry a sikh one, but they never seem to listen to me, replying that they know whats best. My father showed my "teva" to an astrolger/ pundit and said that i was a manglik. this relates to me having some negative effect with mars or something, and that i must marry someone that is a manglik to, otherwise eith of us will die.

I am a sikh i do not believe in these things, but why is it that my parents do not believe in me, my religion and my views? please guide me thank u

(REPLY) Sat Nam. God bless you for your commitment to live as a Sikh, and marry a Sikh! As for why your parents are superstitious and believe in things that you do not, it may be that is how their parents brought them up to believe. Stand your ground! You are not a possession, you are a human being with a soul and a mind to control what happens to your body. I would suggest that in addition to regular reading of your Banis that you take time to recite the SoPurkh section of REhiras eleven times a day for 40 days as well as chant to Guru Ram Das, the "Lord of Miracles" and pray for guidance and resolution of this problem (DHAN DHAN RAM DAS GUR shabd) Your faith is being tested, so it is my prayer that God bless you with courage, and Guru guide you with wisdom to stay true to your soul's identity.
