To be absolutely honest with you...You are not a bad person if you eat meat...but you are not an Amardari Sikh. You have broken your vows. Taking Amrit is a commitment to your consciousness. Perhaps you weren't ready for that kind of commitment. Have you thought about being a vegatarian or not and why? There are so many arguments. You have to consider them for yourself and decide what is right for you. We have had many people ask about being a vegetarian on the Sikh Youth Forum. You could go to past questions and answers and read up on it. I am a vegetarian for many reasons. Briefly,it has to do with - not wanting to kill another living thing which has a soul; not wanting to have that dead, rotting flesh in my body, which will affect my consciousness and physical body in a most negative way (cancer, heart disease, etc.; not wanting to have the karma of that other soul apart of my karma; not wanting to contribute to the ecological imbalance in the planet and add to the hunger of the world.

As far as not being able to read your banis regularly...it is a matter of sincerity and consciousness. It is reasonable that at certain times of our lives we can't be perfect in our bani recitation. It is more important that you keep the Nam running in your head and in your heart throughout the day. Try reciting shabds you know by heart or part of banis by heart as you do other things. Like while walking around the hospital or to and from class. The important thing is to keep your consciousness with God and Guru. Some people recite their banis perfectly and are thinking of other things while they are doing it. Do your best and then, when you do have time, do it in a very consciousness meditatively way. Even if you recite MulhMantra during the day, that is the core of the whole Siri Guru Granth Sahib.

Bless you on your life pursuite. Just don't forget who you are and your relationship with the Guru . GTKK
