Category:Gurbani
Date Posted:Saturday, 11/27/2004 8:31 AM MST

Hello,

I would like a translation of this line from the GGS and if possible where it could be located in the Guru Granth Sahib.

"Jo maange thakur apne se, soi soi deve"

What does it truly mean????

I always thought it meant one things all my life and today I was told differently. Could you please please help me in my quest for the true meaning behind these words.

Thankyou,
Manjit

Dear Manjit,
Here is where the shabd is found on the web, and it's on ang 681 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib. http://www.sikhnet.com/GurbaniKirtan/tr_0599b.html
The best way to know what it means is to recite this shabd as a meditation and have Guru tell you in your heart what it means. There are always several ways to translate Gurbani; the literal meaning and the spirit of what Guru is saying, and as such, it will speak a little differently to each of us depending on our preconceived ideas and our own consciousness. It could be that the meaning you were used to and the one you just heard are BOTH right. Don't analyze it, feel it. Gurbani is about experience, not about mental analysis. Guru ang sang,
