(REPLY) When Guru Gobind Singh baptised the Panj Piare, he gave 5 symbols (the five "k's") to wear, part of the bana that identifies us as Sikhs. The kara indicates that we belong to God. By wearing a kara we remind ourselves to Whom we belong. The "k's" help us to keep in constant remembrance of God and Guru. The Punjabi people who wear karas I presume are Sikhs! It is a religious symbol, not a cultural one! so people of other ethnic origins who are Sikhs and Khalsa also wear karas!
