Another Answer: It is important to have religion as a "medium" to remember God because we are not disciplined enough to reach God by ourselves. We need the Guru to guide us because we are lost in this treacherous world ocean. Someone may cling onto a floating raft, someone may hold onto a life jacket, someone may hold onto just straws. We, as Sikhs, hold onto the Guru Granth Sahib Ji's 'hand.' I believe that anyone can reach Waheguru by being a good person in his or her religion. A true Muslim can reach God, a true Jew can reach God, a true Sikh can reach God, etc. I, as a mere person, do not know exactly which path is the correct one. There probably is no correct path--everyone is different and therefore there are many different religions.

Don't worry if your friends keep asking you why religion is needed. Just let them know what you believe in and also respect their views. Just be as good a Sikh as you can (hold onto the Guru's hand as tight as you can--but not too tight where you become fanatical).
What you should do is go to the Gurduara Sahib and do Seva and recite Paath while you wash the dishes, or clean the bathrooms, etc. Find time for others like that and Waheguru will 'find time' to enlighten you. Listen to the Katha as we--and don't ever get caught up in committee activities as they just make people less pure and more worldly and annoyed.
i probably sound like a preacher but im not--I'm just person who wants to tell you something.
Thank you.
(moderators, please respond whether you agree with me or not. also, thank you for all the Seva you do. i appreciate it!)
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

I am a sikh by religion ..I am 21 and a working professional. Though i grew up in a Gursikh family my parents never forced me to do path or to recite shabads. but always wanted me to. Last year i attended a camp where i discovered a true spirit of a SIKH and khalsa panth. i hardly knew about my religion before but now since i know what it takes to be a SIKH, i am facing so many new questions.

My non sikh friend askes me " why should religion be a medium to remember God?"
He said that religion is the crux of all the problems- what one person understands so the other follows blindly and the real essence disappears.
Is there a difference between 'religion' and 'faith' ? I am sure u all have answers for me. I will be eagerly awaiting them.

thanx
