SATS SRI AKAL,

MY NAME IS INDARJIT, I HAVE A QUESTION. I WANT TO TAKE AMRIT IN THE NEAR FUTURE BUT I DON'T THINK THAT I AM READY. MY QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE READY?

THANK YOU

SATS SRI AKAL.

Dear Indarjit Ji:

Some people NEVER feel they are ready for Amrit, and still they do it. Amrit is a commitment. Speaking personally I found that by taking Amrit, I made a commitment to BE Khalsa, though before Amrit I did not feel ready for all that Khalsa means. So it is something I have to work at, but that is also part of the commitment. Taking Amrit is a powerful experience that gives you the energy you need to launch your life as Khalsa. Understand that the Amritdhari Sikh is going to be tested. Keeping the vows you take is what gets you through the tests.

If you feel the call and feel it deeply, and are not just doing it because your peers are Amritdhari, then you should go ahead and do it. See many other queries on this Forum by looking up "amrit" or "rehat, rehit" as keywords.

Gur Fateh!
