Summary of Question:Nanak - Is This A Reference
Category:Gurbani

Throughout Gurbani, taking Jap Ji Sahib for example,

The gurus have written Nanak, then another line, every now and then.
for example

hai bhee sach

naanak hosee bhee sach.

and then theres the bits in the 9th patshah slokhs

Kaho Nanak Harr Bhajj Manaa

Is guru Nanak referencing that he has said these bits? and Actually god the other parts? (as such is referncing?)

(i realise why all the other gurus used Nanak as well, (cos they are the same in different forms)but I dont understand what the meaning is)

(REPLY) Sat Nam. I'm not sure if this will answer your question or not, but anyway, here goes: It was the custom of the time when Guru Nanak lived for all poets to include their names in their works, "thus speaks Nanak" simply to indicate themselves as the author.-- and so that's what he did in the Mul Mantra, and in all his other masterpieces. And, you already said you realize that the other Gurus also credited "Nanak" as the author of their words, because they carried the same light of Consciousness. I'm sorry if I don't understand the rest of your question. SP
