Summary of Question:How To Treat Text Of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji On The Computer
Category:Sikh Practices

I was about to download the text of SGGS from the internet but I wanted to ask how should I treat the downloaded text. How can I give it respect etc.? Is the downloaded version still considered our Guru or is that reserved for the printed version? I think it is a great idea to have the text of Guru Granth Sahib ji available over the internet because now Guru's bani is easily available to every one. But does it in anyway conflict with our belief that SGGS is 'pargut Guruan ki deh'?

Thanks

This is a good question. Reverence and respect is appropriate and yet the format of the computer is such a completely different set up than a Gurdwara.

First of all, since the portions of the Guru that we have access to are only portions, it is the same as respectfully handling a nitnem or a paper with Gurbani written upon it.

The Siri Guru Granth Sahib is still the "body of the Guru" however, the computer format generated Gurbani is not the "body of the Guru" as it is in it's complete form in our Gurudwara.
